Thank you to our donors, sponsors, partners and advocates!  We are honored to have awarded four deserving high school seniors with a $2000 scholarship to help them on their college journey. We are absolutely thrilled to have been able to meet them in person along with their family and friends.

Jadon Flythe

Matthew Pharr

A graduating senior of Hickory Ridge High School, Jadon Flythe is a dedicated scholar-athlete and emerging leader with a strong interest in technology and innovation. This fall, he will attend North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to pursue a degree in Information Technology. With a passion for cybersecurity, Jadon is committed to protecting the systems people rely on every day. He has demonstrated leadership through athletics, entrepreneurship, and community service, while balancing work and academic responsibilities. Jadon aspires to use his skills to strengthen and safeguard communities reflecting the mission and legacy of the Charles Herbert Flowers Foundation..

Matthew Pharr

Matthew Pharr

A graduating senior of Hopewell High School, Matthew Pharr is a first-generation college student with a passion for motorsports and a clear vision to become an automotive design engineer. Inspired at a young age by his father’s project cars, he has spent years developing his interest in mechanical engineering, design, and performance innovation. Through CTE coursework and the ACE Mentorship Program, Matthew has built hands-on experience in 3D modeling, engineering design, and problem-solving while also earning recognition as a member of the National Technical Honor Society. Committed to both growth and service, he has actively volunteered in his community while preparing for a future in engineering. Matthew aspires to design innovative automotive systems that push boundaries and inspire the next generation—reflecting the mission and legacy of the Charles Herbert Flowers Foundation.

Caitlyn Richey

A graduating senior of Ardrey Kell High School with a 4.0 GPA, this scholar demonstrates excellence in both academics and leadership through programs such as Girls Engineering Change, the ACE Mentorship Program, and the National Math Honor Society. They will attend North Carolina State University to study Sustainable Materials and Technology as a pathway to mechanical engineering, with a focus on designing innovative, sustainable systems that address real-world challenges. Grounded in a passion for problem-solving and service, they are committed to using STEM to create efficient, equitable solutions that strengthen communities and reflect the enduring mission of the Charles Herbert Flowers Foundation.

Emilia Roman

A graduating senior of Palisades High School with a 4.0 GPA, this scholar exemplifies academic excellence, leadership, and service, contributing over 120 hours to their community. Originally from Guam, their passion for mechanical engineering was shaped by firsthand experiences with infrastructure challenges following Typhoon Mangkhut, inspiring a commitment to building resilient and sustainable systems. As a first-generation college student, they are dedicated to using STEM to strengthen communities and expand opportunity for others—reflecting the enduring legacy of the Charles Herbert Flowers Foundation.

STEM Scholarship Criteria and Selection Process

The Charles Herbert Flowers Foundation (CHFFINC )

 STEM Scholarships support graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field at an accredited four-year college or university.


Each recipient will receive a scholarship of $2,000 to cover tuition and/or expenses for four year degree programs and $1,000 for two year programs

The scholarship is designed to expand access to STEM education for students who demonstrate strong academic achievement and financial need, particularly those who have experienced educational or economic barriers to accessing STEM opportunities.


Eligibility Requirements


Applicants must:


  • Be a graduating high school senior.
  • Reside in North Carolina
  • Have a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
  • Plan to enroll full-time in a STEM major at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university.
  • Submit the most recent high school transcript(s).
  • Provide proof of acceptance letter to an accredited  college or university in a STEM discipline.
  • Demonstrate financial need, as outlined in the application.


Priority Consideration


In alignment with its charitable mission, CHFFINC ™  gives priority consideration to students who have experienced educational or economic barriers to pursuing STEM pathways.

This may include:

  • First-generation college students
  • Students from low-income households
  • Students attending under-resourced or Title I schools
  • Students from rural or economically distressed communities
  • Students with limited access to advanced STEM coursework, mentorship, or enrichment opportunities


Eligible Fields of Study


Students pursuing degrees in the following STEM fields are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Aviation/Aerospace
  • Engineering (all majors)
  •  Biomedical Sciences
  • Agricultural Science
  • Computer Science/Technology


Selection Process


Scholarship recipients are selected through a holistic review process that considers:


  • Academic achievement
  • Financial need
  • Commitment to a STEM field of study
  • Leadership, service, or community involvement
  • Educational context and access to opportunity
